GoT Makes Emmy History With 12 Wins

Forget gold dragons; this year was all about the golden statue. Not only was GoT the year’s most honored program at the Emmy Awards, it broke the record for the most trophies won in by one series in a single year – topping The West Wing’s nine wins back in 2000. “Mother’s Mercy,” the Season 5 finale, earned Emmys for director David Nutter as well as writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. Peter Dinklage was named the year’s top supporting actor, and the series was crowned best drama.

GoT was also honored for production design, casting, editing, makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects and stunt coordination.

After host Andy Samberg called out the author's birthday, George R.R. Martin had even more to celebrate.

Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner celebrated behind the scenes.

Fellow Emmy winner, comedian Amy Schumer, got cozy with the cast.
