The 'Thrones' universe has been humming lately with George R.R. Martin's visits to the Belfast and Malta sets and a number of production announcements. In case you've missed anything, here are the latest headlines:

• Belfast television station UTV recently posted a segment about George R.R. Martin's visit to Northern Ireland, his greeting of fans/extras in anticipation of 'Game of Thrones' and his thoughts on the location being chosen to shoot the series (due partially to America's "distinct castle shortage").
• The directors for the first season of the series will feature a number of familiar names for fans of HBO original series like 'The Sopranos,' 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'True Blood' - the ten episodes will be covered by four directors: Tim Van Patten, Brian Kirk, Daniel Minahan and Alan Taylor.
• Oscar®-winning composer Stephen Warbeck has officially signed on to write the original music and score for the series.
• Finally, some casting news to further fill up the GoT ensemble: Brian Fortune will play "Night's Watch Officer" (the equivalent of the First Steward, Bowen Marsh, in the novels), Stephen Don will play Stiv and Ian Gelder will fill the role of Kevan Lannister.
