Back to Work on the Set of Game of Thrones

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss certainly have their hands full with the second season of ‘Game of Thrones,’ raising multiple new realms of Westeros on sets scattered across several real-world countries. Daily Beast reporter Jace Lacob caught up with the guys to find out how the story of George R.R. Martin’s second book was coming together. “For Tyrion fans (and really, who isn’t a Tyrion fan?), season two sees the Imp in fine form, serving as hand of the king and trying to make the best of the chaos in King’s Landing,” Benioff said. “The Stark children struggle for survival, now that Ned’s not around to protect them. And Daenerys Stormborn finds that life in the big city isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

Just because this is their second time around the Moon Door doesn’t mean that Benioff and Weiss are having an easier time of it. “Whatever lessons we’ve learned from the first season are mitigated by the increased difficulty of the second season,” Weiss explained. “We have more characters, more locations, more dragons. I wish we could say we’ve found a nice groove and life is easy now, but I still find myself waking up from anxiety nightmares at 4 in the morning.”

Game of Thrones Receives 13 Emmy Nominations

Since the series premiere of ‘Game of Thrones,’ supportive fans across the web have been posting about their hopes for the show come Emmy season. Well, the nominations are in, and Game of Thrones has received 13 nods – including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Peter Dinklage earned his first nomination for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. Tim Van Patten received his eighth nomination for directing the show's pilot episode. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were nominated for writing the episode "Baelor." The show also received nominations for Casting, Costumes, Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup and Hairstyling, as well as Special Effects, Sound Editing, Stunt Coordination and Main Title Design.

A Season Finale’s Dance With Dragons

You’d think that settling on the look of a dragon that’s going to close the first season of your groundbreaking new HBO series might be a bit nerve-wracking. But according to ‘Game of Thrones’ creator D.B. Weiss, it’s basically just pure awesomeness. “Whose inner 12-year-old doesn’t want to build dragons from the ground up? We had some really talented people working with us to make them into a reality,” he says of working with Bluebolt, UK – the lead VFX vendor for GOT Season 1. “We started with a lot of George [R.R. Martin]’s ideas about dragons, because George has definitely spent more time thinking about dragons than anyone I’ve ever met. We put together a giant file of notes and images, then the team took those and modeled them into something organic that’s hopefully really effective for people.”
